Scotland, Here We Come! (Part Three)

Day 5

On Day 5 of our trip, we loaded up on the bus and said "good-bye", for now, to Glasgow.  We traveled along Loch Lomond along very narrow roads as we headed for the "highlands" of Scotland.  On the bus tour they rotate the people who sit in the front three seats on each side of the bus each day so that everyone gets a chance to sit at the front of the bus.  We were assigned the front seats on the first day!  It was great for taking pictures because sometimes the scenery was moving too fast past the side window and it was raining and the only good picture was out the big front windows. 

Below is the very beautiful Loch Lomond with Ben Lomond in the background - the highest peak. (We talked about the significance of Ben Lomond in an earlier post).

As we moved further into the Highlands, the scenery changed......

and the signs did, too.  I know it is a little hard to read unless you can zoom in,
but every sign was in English and Gaelic.

One of the most beautiful areas we were in was called the Valley of Glen Coe.  We have a CD we bought in Scotland that has a song about the valley and the massacre of the McDonald clan that took place there.  It is a very beautiful song, but a very sad one.  There was a Scottish bagpiper standing on the side of the road with the rain falling (more like a mist to us) and the beautiful highlands of Scotland surrounding us.  It is one of our favorite memories of the trip.  The purple in the pictures is heather.
