We’re On The Go! – Part One

We’ve been very busy – and it doesn’t look like it’s over yet.  In April (on the same day) we were blessed with two new grandsons – one in Utah and one in Illinois.

This brings our total of grandchildren up to eleven – six boys and five girls.  For the first time in our history, the boys outnumber the girls in the Shurtz clan!  Since it was physically impossible for Grandma to be in two places at once, decisions had to be made.  We ended up staying in Utah to help Carolyn when Grant was born (left), and Monica’s mother-in-law went to Illinois to help her when Liam (right)was born – for which we are very grateful.  All did not go smoothly at either delivery, but both mothers and sons were watched over and are doing well.  I had a fun week with Carolyn’s family and quickly realized (again) that it takes a lot of energy to keep up with young children.  Betsy, from what I hear, had a fun time with Monica’s girls.

Waiting!

Grandpa came to get me the next weekend and took time to help Dustin with the treehouse project before we left …..  (No more running from the tree house out onto the shed roof, kids!) …..and to play a little golf with Ryan.  Who won, guys?

Then, at the end of April, we took care of Elias & Isaac for a weekend while Jen & Jeff went down to St. George for their anniversary.  We were not sure what to expect.  In the past, Isaac has totally fallen apart if his mom even looks like she is stepping away from him.  We had visions of him crying all weekend and being so traumatized that he wouldn’t want anything to do with us ever again.  However, we took the boys out to feed the horse while Jen & Jeff left and it was the start of a great weekend.  We got along fine – despite the amount of energy it takes to entertain two little boys.  Elias helped his Grandpa change the oil on the lawn mowers and roto-tiller, mow the lawns, and roto-till the garden.  We also got to help celebrate Isaac’s first birthday with him.
